Now imagine that the wire connecting one container to the other container could be changed from a large wire size to a smaller wire size.  The smaller size of the conductive wire would affect the volume of electrons that could flow from one container to the other container.  The wire itself acts as a restriction in the circuit and slows down the flow of electrons.  The restriction of the flow of electrons is called resistance.
