Relaxation Exercise - Meditation

This activity gives you the opportunity to practice meditation according to the information in chapter 21.

You should have completed the Lesson 13 assignment on meditation and completed reading chapter 21.

This following page is a brief overview of meditation along with step-by-step instructions for simple meditation. Read through this page very carefully and make sure you understand what you are doing. Refer to your chapter for additional guidance.

Your deep relaxation assignment for this week is to practice mantra meditation at least two times. Practice according to the instructions in chapter 21 and this web page.

On your typed paper, thoroughly respond to each of these items referring to the two times that you did them at home, and the time that you did it with us in class. Describe primarily how you were feeling in relation to your stress levels.

Follow this general outline with your description:

Daytime (first time):

  • How you felt before meditating

  • Your ability to remain focused on your mantra

  • What things you noticed were happening while you meditated (mental, emotional, physical)

  • How you felt while you meditated

  • How you felt after meditating (both immediately and for a while after meditating)

  • Any other thoughts, concerns, or insights you had regarding your experience meditating

Daytime (second time):

  • How you felt before meditating

  • Your ability to remain focused on your mantra

  • What things you noticed were happening while you meditated (mental, emotional, physical)

  • How you felt while you meditated

  • How you felt after meditating (both immediately and for a while after meditating)

  • Any other thoughts, concerns, or insights you had regarding your experience meditating

Be thorough with your description of your experience and how you felt.

Type all of this information in your word processor. Be sure to save it, and check it for spelling and grammar errors.
