DVD Relaxation Exercise
Progressive Relaxation
The DVD assignment for this Lesson is the eighth exercise on the Stress Relief DVD called Progressive Relaxation.
Practice doing this exercise at least two (2) times according to the instructions on the DVD. One of those times, do it immediately before you fall asleep at night. Make sure it is the very last thing you do before you close your eyes to fall asleep. (Don't practice this exercise and then stay up to read or do something else. Just go right to sleep ... this is very important.)
Do it at times when you will not be disturbed. It lasts approximately 16 minutes.
In a typed format, respond to the following items:
- How you felt before the exercise
- Your experience during the exercise
- How you felt immediately following the exercise
- How you felt long after completing the exercise, or how you slept and awakened the following morning.
In the box provided below thoroughly respond to each of these items referring to the two times that you did them. Describe how you felt before, during and after (immediately AND about an hour after) practicing this relaxation exercise referring to each time that you tried it. Describe primarily how you were feeling in relation to your stress levels.
Follow this general outline with your description:
Afternoon:
- Before
- During
- Immediately after
- Long After
Right before bed:
- Before
- How quickly you fell asleep
- How you slept
- How refreshed you felt in the morning
- How this differed from a typical night's sleep
Be thorough with your description of your experience and how you felt. With your description prior to sleeping, describe how you slept, how that was different than normal, and how you felt when you awoke the next morning.
Type all of this information in your word processor. Be sure to save it, and check it for spelling and grammar errors.
