Instructions
There are three practical alternatives for storing your web pages on the Internet:
a) Use the WSU web server (for campus students only)
b) Use your ISP's web page services
c) Use a free web hosting service such as Geocities
Web Page Creation
There are many tools available to help you make web pages:
- Use Front Page or Dreamweaver, both programs are available in labs on campus (recommended)
- Hard code your page in HTML using notepag (not recommended)
- Use the "Save as html" command in Microsoft Word to save a document as a web page (can be a bit clunky)
- NVU is a program that is much like Microsoft's Front Page to create web pages. You can download NVU here.
After you have finished your web page, you can post your site to the web by using any of the above methods. If you are using your ISP's space, follow the instructions given to you by them. If you are using Geocities, follow the instructions on their site. If you are a student at Weber State, and would like to use the server space provided for this class, then use the FTP instructions below:
- Open up Internet Explorer and type in ftp://students.weber.edu
- Your login name is your Wildcat email name, and your password is your student ID (88.... )
- Drag and drop your pages into the window.
The URL is http://students.weber.edu/WildcatEmailName/ist3710 for example:
Sarah Jones is sarahjones@mail.weber.edu, so her URL is http://students.weber.edu/sarahjones/is&t3710. If Sarah created a web page named country.html, the URL is http://students.weber.edu/sarahjones/ist&3710/country.html
Finally, Email me the URL of your country web page (Profile #1), and I will post it to the country page for our class. Your future profiles (#2 - #6) will link from your Profile #1 home page. See this template as an example.
Remember to double-check the web page address before the due date to make sure it is working properly (sometimes it appears you have followed instructions, but the web page doesn't show up - this doesn't work very well when it comes time for me to grade it!)
